Back in the 18th Century, Scugog was part of Cartwright, Reach and Port Perry, but a flood changed all of that. During the process of creating Lake Scugog with the use of the dam in Lindsay, a flood was a result of the efforts and thus created an island which was swiftly named Scugog Island. The separation lent to Scugog becoming its own township. Trails around Scugog are varied for use, some are for cycling and jogging and some are just quaint enough to just take a quiet walk along to really get in some time with nature and obtain some additional physical fitness at the same time.
