Back in the 18th Century, Scugog was part of Cartwright, Reach and Port Perry, but a flood changed all of that. During the process of creating Lake Scugog with the use of the dam in Lindsay, a flood was a result of the efforts and thus created an island which was swiftly named Scugog Island.
